You are most welcome to join with us and observe a dialogue and debate about the
current challenges facing Chairman Ben Bernanke and his colleagues
who serve on the nation's most important monetary policymaking body,
the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC).
This activity entails the involvement and participation of only students, their respective faculty advisors and participating guests from the
Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.
The purpose of the University Symposium is to educate undergraduate students about the functions of the
Federal Reserver System using dynamic exercises and student involvement. Federal Reserve representatives will deliver
presentations on the monetary policy, banking supervision and regulation, and operations functions through the course
of the Symposium. A number of students will participate in the role of the Fed's Federal Open Market Commitee (FOMC)
when it evaluates the economy and makes monetary policy decisions. Selected students will analyze current economic
conditions, discuss monetary policy alternatives, and vote on a monetary policy directive, much as the FOMC does.
