The Riverhouse Hotel is located on the banks of the Deschutes River less than 2 miles away from Bend’s historic downtown area. Bend is known as the “outdoor playground of the West” due to its pristine beauty and many recreational opportunities that include river rafting on the Deschutes River, hiking at one of the many local state and national parks, or skiing at Mt. Bend is located at the junction of US Highway 97 and State Highway 20, a 3 ½ hour drive from Portland and a 2 ½ hour drive from Salem, OR. There is non-stop commercial air service between the Roberts Field Airport (RDM), which is located in nearby Redmond, and several major cities, including Seattle and Portland. From RDM, it is a 20-minute shuttle or taxi ride to the Riverhouse Hotel.

Dr. Chen Zhao

Dr. Chen Zhao leads the economics team at Redfin, where she produces research on the housing market for public and internal audiences. Previously, she was an executive director leading housing finance and financial markets research at the JPMorgan Chase Institute. Prior to joining JPMCI, Chen was an economics consultant at Analysis Group, Inc., where she worked on financial litigation cases and led teams conducting health economics and outcomes research on behalf of pharmaceutical companies. While in graduate school, Chen was with the Center for Economic Studies and the Social Economic and Housing Statistics Division at the US Census Bureau, where she conducted applied microeconomics research using large scale restricted-access linked survey-administrative data. She started her career at the White House Council of Economic Advisers, where she focused on labor and health economics.

Dr. Claudia Sahm is a Washington-based expert on monetary and fiscal policy and forecasting. She has several years of experience advising decision-makers at the Federal Reserve, White House, and Congress. She created a widely-used and highly-accurate recession indicator, the Sahm rule. Sahm is the founder of Sahm Consulting and Stay-at-Home Macro (SAHM) Substack. She is a former Federal Reserve and White House economist.

Dr. Silvia is currently President of Dynamic Economic Strategy, LLC and is focused on financial and economic advisory works, writing a weekly newsletter, and presenting economic concepts and commenting on economic issues at several conferences. Formerly, John was managing director and the chief economist for Wells Fargo Securities until July 2018. John has been a frequent guest on CNBC, Bloomberg (TV and radio), Fox Business and the Nightly Business Report. John served as the president of the National Association for Business Economics (NABE) in 2015 and was awarded a NABE Fellow Certificate of Recognition in 2011 for outstanding contributions to the business economics profession and leadership among business economists to the nation.

About Our Organization

The Pacific Northwest Regional Economic Conference is a non-profit organization established to promote research and education on the economy of the Northwest states and western Canada.

The PNREC Board of Directors is comprised of economists and regional analysts from the states of Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, and the provinces of British Columbia and Alberta (with occasional participation from Alaska and northern California). They represent a cross section of professionals from academia, business, government, and consulting organizations in both countries.
